Macbeth, Lady Macbeths Character Change Throughout the Play. free essay sample
Macbeth is a play written by the famous playwright, William Shakespeare in 1606. This play was set in Scotland and features a variety of characters and themes. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Macbeth illustrates two ordinary nobles whose lives are linked in a spiral of power and greed. Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s character changes throughout the play. This essay will show her changes seen during the play. We are introduced to Lady Macbeth when she receives a letter from her husband, Macbeth. The letter includes the meeting with 3 witches when he was on his way back to castle Foress. The witches greet Macbeth by his current title, Thane of Glamis, they then make two prophecies. The first prophecy is that his new title will be the Thane of Cawdor and the second is that he will become king. Soon after they meet, he is given the new title Thane of Cawdor. Lady Macbeth decides that she will do everything in her power to make him king. We will write a custom essay sample on Macbeth, Lady Macbeths Character Change Throughout the Play. or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Lady Macbeth becomes extremely irrational from the beginning of the play to the end.She pictures herself as a ruthlessness person and believes she can handle the evil that comes along with murder and deception. At the beginning of the play Lady Macbeth is seen as a dominant, controlling, heartless wife with an obsession to become royalty for her and her husband. Although she is supposed to be ruthless, her husband sees her as a good person that knows what is right. Even here we begin to see that Lady Macbeth has a very unstable mind. She knows that Macbeth is a strong person and she must be stronger to convince him to go along with her. She pretends to be a determined and odd character which distances her and Macbeth from each other. At the beginning of the play Lady Macbeth believes Macbeth doesnââ¬â¢t have the ââ¬Å"spiritâ⬠to ââ¬Å"catch the nearest wayâ⬠. Lady Macbeth intentionally tries to ignore the consequences of her deeds and instead plots to make sure Macbeth is the future king of Scotland. King Duncan decides to make a surprise appearance at Macbeth house; they then plot to murder him.Lady Macbeth tells her husband to put the plan in motion, this shows her change in technique from being persuasive to being more intimidating and almost blackmailing Macbeth. The drive she had that made Macbeth do what she felt needed to be done is growing weaker. By the end of the play Lady Macbeth has lost self confidence by realising that most of the situation is her fault because she was so obsessed with power and greed. When Lady Macbeth starts to really feel guilty, everything collapses, including her husband. She then goes completely crazy and starts leepwalking. During her sleepwalking scene she shows remorse for the people she has hurt as she ââ¬Å"takes on to her own soulâ⬠the blame of all the murders committed, even the ones she had nothing to do with. In conclusion, Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s character slowly falls apart because of the fact that her strength is a lie, she tries to control her husband and she is involved in supernatural powers. Her want for an intimidating personality ended in her morals being destroyed. She is therefore seen as a fiend and I agree with this finding.

Brigham Young and the Expanding American Frontier essays
Brigham Young and the Expanding American Frontier essays African Americans in the Colonial Era An African American is an American of African descent. In the book African Americans in the Colonial Era, told is how this descends came about. When Africans were brought from Africa to the new world to become slaves, many changes occurred in their culture. Among these changes in culture, has emerged a new race. The African American. When slavery began in English North America, nearly all the slaves came from the coast and interior of West and West Central Africa. A few came from the Mozambique coast or Madagascar, around the Cape of Good Hope. In coming to the Americas, these Africans kept religion as the heart of their culture. African slaves came to the New World with strong religious beliefs and thoughts of the afterlife. But religious belief is personal and often developed individually, and the private world of the religion was a sanctuary which slaves could turn during periods of anxiety and stress that were such a large part of their lives. African religions, of course, were not all alike, but West and West-Central Africans held some patterns of beliefs in common. Slaves arrived here hoping to continue their own religious beliefs but forced upon them, although not by all landowners, was the Christian religion. In the New World, blacks received Christian teaching in more or less strenuous doses at ti mes and in various locales. With this noted, it is hard to conceive the idea that they would have even done this to these slaves. In the vast majority of blacks from Africa relied on one of two basic modes of subsistence: pastoralism or agriculture. The herdsman would keep their cattle, sheep or goats, on the northern and southern extremes of the Atlantics slave gathering area. Farmers around the savannas north or south of the equatorial forests grew ri ...

The Discover of Dietary Vitamins
The Discover of Dietary Vitamins Vitamins are a 20th-century discovery. While people always felt properties of some foods were important to health before the opening decades of the 1900s, it wasnt until after the turn of the century that these factors were identified and synthesized. Discovery of Vitamins as a Factor In 1905, an Englishmen named William Fletcher became the first scientist to determine whether the removal of special factors, known as vitamins, from food would lead to diseases. Doctor Fletcher made the discovery while researching the causes of the disease Beriberi. Eating unpolished rice, it seemed, prevented Beriberi while eating polished rice did not.à Hence, Fletcher suspected that there were special nutrients contained in the husk of the rice removed during the polishing process that played a role.à In 1906, English biochemist Sir Frederick Gowland Hopkins also found that certain food factors (proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and minerals) were important to growth in the human body: his work led to his receiving (together with Christiaan Eijkman) the 1929 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. In 1912, Polish scientist Cashmir Funk named the special nutritional parts of food a vitamine after vita, which meant life,à and amine from compoundsà found in the thiamine he isolated from rice husks. Vitamine was later shortened to vitamin. Together, Hopkins and Funk formulated the vitamin hypothesis of deficiency disease, which asserts that a lack of vitamins could make you sick. Specific Vitamin Discoveries Throughout the 20th century, scientists were able to isolate and identify the various vitamins found in food. Here is a short history of some of the more popular vitamins. Vitamin A (a group of fat-soluble retinoids, including retinol, retinal, and retinyl esters)à - Elmer V. McCollum and Marguerite Davis discovered Vitamin A around 1912 to 1914. In 1913, Yale researchers Thomas Osborne and Lafayette Mendel discovered that butter contained a fat-soluble nutrient soon known as vitamin A. Vitamin A was first synthesized in 1947.à Vitamin B (known as biotin, a water-soluble vitamin that helps the body convert carbohydrates, fats, and proteins into energy)- Elmer V. McCollum also discovered Vitamin B sometime around 1915ââ¬â1916.Vitamin B1 (also known as thiamine, a water-solubleà B vitamin that plays a critical role in energy metabolism) - Casimir Funk discovered Vitamin B1 (thiamine) in 1912.Vitamin B2 (also known as riboflavin, an important role in energy production, cellular function, and metabolism)- D. T. Smith, E. G. Hendrick discovered B2 in 1926. Max Tishler invented methods for synthesizing the essential vitamin B2.Niacin- American Co nrad Elvehjem discovered Niacin in 1937. Folic acid- Lucy Willsà discovered Folic acid inà 1933.Vitamin B6 (six compounds which are extremely versatile and primarily work on protein metabolism)- Paul Gyorgy discovered Vitamin B6 in 1934.Vitamin C (ascorbic acid, required for the biosynthesis of collagen)- In 1747, Scottish naval surgeon James Lind discovered that a nutrient in citrus foods prevented scurvy.à It was re-discovered and identified by Norwegian researchersà A. Hoist and T. Froelich in 1912. In 1935, Vitamin C became the first vitamin to be artificially synthesized. The process was invented by Dr. Tadeusz Reichstein of the Swiss Institute of Technology in Zurich.Vitamin D (promotes calcium absorption in the gut and enable bone mineralization)- In 1922, Edward Mellanby discovered Vitamin D while researching a disease called rickets.à Vitamin E (important anti-oxidant)- In 1922, University of California researchers Herbert Evans and Katherine Bishop discovered Vitamin E in green leafy vegetables.à Coenzyme Q10 In a report called ââ¬Å"Coenzyme Q10 - The Energizing Antioxidant,â⬠issued by Kyowa Hakko USA, a physician named Dr. Erika Schwartz MD wrote: Coenzyme Q10 was discovered by Dr. Frederick Crane, a plant physiologist at the University of Wisconsin Enzyme Institute, in 1957. Utilizing specialized fermentation technology developed by Japanese manufacturers, cost-effective production of CoQ10 began in the mid-1960s. To this day, fermentation remains the dominant production method around the globe. In 1958, Dr. D.E. Wolf, working under Dr. Karl Folkers (Folkers leading a team of researchers at Merck Laboratories), first described the chemical structure of coenzyme Q10. Dr. Folkers later received the 1986 Priestly Medal from the American Chemical Society for his research on coenzyme Q10. Source Vitamin and Mineral Supplement Fact Sheets. The prosperous country it is should be a wakeup call for the country to make and implement the necessary policies in the adoption and use of renewable energy. A more coherent and widespread generation and use of renewable energy faces a number of constraining factors: The American public is not sufficiently supplied with information on t he availability, benefits, and costs of the renewable energy option. Project initiators and supervisors in the renewable energy subsector have in many instances failed the test of understanding and solving the energy and other related needs of rural and to some extent the urban communities. They have also fallen short of designing and implementing projects that solve the energy problems especially in rural America. This can partly be explained by lack of these project initiators to involve the affected communities in the project design and implementation. Government agencies sometimes fail to assess effectively benefits and costs when contrasting and comparing renewable energy versus the traditional/conventional energy sources. Essay --
The past 20 years, there has been progress in the education of women from Muslim countries in science and technology but there is still a long way to go. In the words of Kofi Annan, as he launched a U.N global initiative earlier five year ago to educate girls, ââ¬Å"Let us prove that a society which empowers its women is a society sure to succeed.â⬠There was many data that I had collected within my research on Muslim women having rightââ¬â¢s to an education. My resources consisted of books, such as ââ¬Å"The Rights of Women in Islam: An Authentic Approachâ⬠by Haifaa A. Jawad. I collected data from Hadiths and The Quran. The Quran is the Holy book of Islam that contains the words of Allah (god), and the Hadith is a collection of the traditional sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad. Also, I collected some data from articles such as ââ¬Å"Viewpoint Dialogue to Bridge the Gap: The Challenges of Women in Islamâ⬠by Ambassador Sallama Shaker, ââ¬Å"Muslim Women and Higher Education: Identities, Experiences, and Prospectsâ⬠by Dr. David The rights to an education are completely different from the rights the women have in Sudan. Many of the young Muslim girls are getting married at such young ages and have to drop out of their school to raise their family. Some of these women go back and try to finish their education they already started. Some donââ¬â¢t even bother to go back to school because they are too busy with their, kids and their husbands, too. In Yemen, they could not afford to teach the boys and the girls in separate rooms, so they teach them in one classroom altogether. On BBC, they were talking about Muslim girls struggling in education. In Jordan, ââ¬Å"enrolment is excellent at 86 percent - however, girls drop out in secondary school because of early ... ... arenââ¬â¢t looked down upon like they were use they are raking charge of the world I believe the next 20 years to come we might see a females being more dominant than males in todayââ¬â¢s society if things continue the way they are. In more recent years women from the Muslim countries are taking charge of their lives they were fighting for their rightââ¬â¢s to drive cars and educate themselves just like men do they want to be leaders of the world all they need is for those who belittler them to step out of the way in order to have the freedom of doing anything that they want to achieve their goals to make their dreams come true. Now Islam gives everyone the right to do whatever they want in the branch of education, but the cultures we have and the life styles we live by are what is affecting the lack of education in Muslim women but in years to come that shall change as well.

Benefits of Technology
Ever since it developed, there has been controversy over whether or not mechanical inventions benefit our lives. Doug Rennieââ¬â¢s article, ââ¬Å"Faxed to the Maxâ⬠, says ââ¬Å"the timesaving devices we created give us more freedom to do what we want have instead imprisoned us in our own technology. â⬠Although this may be true to some people, everyone has the power to resist technological devices. People can chose to use these tools to enhance their lifestyles, like they can chose to use a hammer or a saw for a project; they donââ¬â¢t necessarily need it, but it would save time and energy. It is the ability to mistreat these inventions that makes some people uneasy towards about using technology in their daily lives. Although it can be abused in many ways, technology used properly is a tool that aids in education, health and communication. Our physical health has benefited greatly from technology. Through inventions like the pacemaker and artificial limbs, a tremend ous amount or people have had better physical conditions. This biological technology is not favourable to all. Some say that it is better for nature to do its work and people should not interfere. The spread of new inventions can soon get out of hand. For example, if we have the ability to clone humans, our lifestyles will change. People will abuse this power by being careless about their health. They believe people think technology can save them in the end, so they can exercise less and eat more unhealthy foods. On the other hand, curative inventions have saved lives and allowed people to lead healthier ones. There can be ways to make technology accessible to only certain people, but there is no reason to stop the usage of these medical products if they can help save lives. An example of one of these products is the pacemaker, invented by Canadian electrical engineer, John Hopps. Because the heart stops beating when it cools, he found that mechanical or electric stimulation could mak e the heart start up again. Since then, many were given healthier lives. Prosthetic limbs have also played a great role in helping the lives of amputees. Artificial limbs with sensors and microchips have recently been designed so that these people can maintain an active lifestyle rather than being confined to wheelchairs. Technology plays a very important role in the communication of peopleà today. With the touch of a button, the Internet and the cellular telephone can allow us to transmit our message to someone on the other side of the planet. Certain people chose not to use any of these appliances because of the negative consequences. The Internet contains inappropriate sites and some parents donââ¬â¢t want to risk the chance of their child meeting a dangerous stranger in a chat room. People are so used to e-mailing that they donââ¬â¢t know how to send letters anymore. Other antagonists of technological communication believe that the invention of cellular phones is prone to car accidents.Contrariwise, internet has allowed to world to communicate and to easily get in touch with someone. There are parental controls on the Internet and the phone is simply a tool that people can chose not use. In a car accident, it is more of the driverââ¬â¢s responsibility than the cellular phone because the driver chose to use the cellular phone. The Internet is a cheaper and quicker way to communicate. Typing an e-mail and it getting it to the other person takes only a matter of seconds, whereas writing a letter and sending it could take days.Through instant messages and chat rooms on the Internet, a person can converse with another on the other side of the world and save money on their phone bills. Cell phones are convenient devices, especially in emergencies. For instance, if someone was lost in the woods, they can either phone for help or check the map on their cell phone. Cellular phones are also timesaving tools because they can fit in pockets and there is no n eed to find a payphone or carry coins on the street. We can easily abuse the technology around us, but we can just as easily find that the consequences are more beneficial when we use it properly. We should consider the negative effects of technology and find ways to limit them, but we cannot let these issues stop us from the possibilities that the devices can offer. Many of the appliances that scientists created have improved our communication with the world, easier and faster learning, and have even extended the life spans of numerous people. It is wrong to say that everyone has been trapped into being time-sick patients of modern devices. We are simply using these tools to our advantage so we can accomplish the numerous tasks in our lives easier. Without any technology at all, we will be taking a step back from mankind.

Capitalism and Its Struggle in Developing Countries
Capitalism and its Struggle in the Developing Countries Since the development of civilization, more than 5000 years ago, some type of economic system has always been applied. Resources have been scarce and people always have had to decide how to allocate their resources in the best manner. To this day, people have tried many different systems. However, systems as feudalism and mercantilism belong to the past. During more recent times there have been two competing systems, the capitalist system of the west and the communist system of the east. But with the collapse of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe in the late 1980ââ¬â¢s and early 1990ââ¬â¢s there now is only one system still standing. Today there is no argument that capitalism, even ifâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Also, immigrants from these countries hardly have any trouble to adapt western capitalism upon arriving here. The problem is not the lack of effort of the developing countries or any cultural differences. The problem lies elsewhere. Economic development is a complex process. In classical economical terms economic growth is defined as increases in four factors; capital, labor, human capital and technology. The objective is therefore to apply an economic policy that generates the greatest increases in these factors. There have been many different theories applying to this, but economists generally agree that economic freedom is essential. Economic freedom is a relatively vague term. But it can be defined as when it is possible to enter into voluntary agreements, which are upheld by a strong and predictable rule of law which also protects peopleââ¬â¢s private property. There have been attempts to measure economic freedom. The most ambitious is the Economic Freedom Index (EFI) which is reported every year in Economic Freedom of the World, going back as far as 1970. This research is an attempt to describe and measure different countries level of economic freedom. EFI measures 37 different categories divided into 5 groups: size of government, legal structure and security of property rights, access to sound money, freedom to exchange with foreigners and regulation of credit, labor and business. Each category is measured from zero to tenShow MoreRelatedThe Expansion Of Capitalism Has Hindered The Developing Countries Of Asia, Africa And Latin America1490 Words à |à 6 Pagesindubitably forward that the expansion of capitalism has hindered ââ¬Ëthe developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin Americaââ¬â¢, therefore contributing to poverty: The state of being extremely poorââ¬â¢. The War Was A Short, But Impactful War On The Political...
The Falklands War was a short, but impactful war on the political situation in both Great Britain and Argentina. In 1982, Great Britain was clearly one of the more powerful military nations in the world, having the full support of NATO. Argentina, on the other hand, was not extremely powerful by any means. However, in each of these nations, there was a political motivation for engaging in this seemingly meaningless war. Argentinaââ¬â¢s government had been involved in many human rights violations on their own citizens. Lieutenant General Leopoldo Galtieri saw this war as a way to distract from these issues. Great Britain had just recently elected their first female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. Running on a ticket that promoted a strong,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He saw the Falkland Islands as the solution to this problem. The Falklands were a group of islands off the coast of Argentina that had been taken by the British in 1833. However, Argentinians continued to see the islands as part of Argentina. These nationalistic feelings towards the islands was an opportunity for Galitieri to distract the people from the crises that were occurring on the mainland. He felt that an invasion of the islands would boost the power of the military government and prevent any possible coups. However, the Argentinians did not think that the British would ever respond to these attacks. Margaret Tatcher was elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1979. She was the first female Prime Minister of the UK and was known as the ââ¬Å"Iron Lady.â⬠This is because of her tough stances and promotion of her conservative ideologies in her time in parliament. This reputation followed her through her election as Prime Minister. From a foreign policy perspective, Thatcherââ¬â¢s goal was to defend the strength of the UK during the Cold War. For example, despite opposition, she continued to force the UK to boycott the 1980 Moscow Olympics after the Soviet invasion of A fghanistan in 1979. Therefore, when a small nation such as Argentina invaded British-owned islands in 1982, Thatcher would not back down. She saw the Falklands crisis as an opportunity to boost British nationalism ahead of her upcoming 1983 reelection bid. Description of my visit to cemetery Free Essays
The cemetery visit causes eerie feelings of stillness and uneasiness. 1. It is very quiet, serene, peaceful and absolutely still, except for birds chirping all around me. We will write a custom essay sample on Description of my visit to cemetery or any similar topic only for you Order Now 2. I made sure that I visited during the daylight hours when the sun was indeed shining brightly: displaying brilliant beauty and dispelling any shadows as I walked on tiptoes it seems. -I am very afraid to visit the gravesite after sunset hours. I do not like dark shadows or anything that is mysterious or makes me feel queasy and uneasy. -The gravesites all around are flat for the most part, with a few mounds of earth and head stones. -The entire place is not even called a cemetery or gravesite, but it is known as a memorial garden. It does seem far more pleasant to me to visit and explore a memorial garden instead of a cemetery. When I hear the word garden connected to anything I think of doing fun things, of flowers, the green blossoms and the springtime buds and joyful memories. I think of vegetables and fruits growing on a plot of ground. I think of well-manicured lawns carpeted by rich, healthy green grass. I think of produce I can harvest from the earth, wash off and eat right away. 4.à à My cemetery visit is pleasant and exciting simply because of the weather and the environment I encounter at the site and it is daytime and the light everywhere is very bright. The grounds are also immaculate and blossoming. The whole of nature seems to be at peace everywhere. 5.à à à à à Most gravesites have names on them with very pretty collections of flowers and floral arrangements atop the ground. I cannot help but notice the green grass is flourishing well ââ¬â healthy well-fed and quite inviting. A few other visitors stroll through the garden thoughtfully, mincing and watching their every step, apparently out of respect for the dead buried there. 6.à à à à à I also notice a few crystal white gazebos scattered throughout the garden where visitors can sit in order to reflect and meditate. Indeed flowers and perennials surround their white lattice work of wood with intricate and striking designs. Everything seems to have been made to encourage reverence and awe. 7.à à à à à Even though very beautiful and still and quiet, the gravesite environment causes me inevitably to think of my life, to think about death itself ââ¬â what it is and why it is. I really wonder where all of those people went whose remains are buried beneath the cemetery dirt. 8.à à à à à The entire scene also makes me think of my own mortality. How very fragile and transient human beings really are. ââ¬Å"Here today and gone tomorrowâ⬠is a commonly spoken folk phrase that reminds me of how we must really take care of ourselves and live our lives as long and as rich as we can. The gravesite makes me think of the beauties of life that I possess now. Its joys and its many opportunities are incomparable. I certainly do not plan or wish to die now. I want to live as long as I can. 9.à à à à à The cemetery visit also forces me to think of my own passage into the other realm, into oblivion. What shall it be like it? I really wonder and have wondered for some time, now. What is How to cite Description of my visit to cemetery, Essays

Food Intake free essay sample
A term that is used to encompass nutrient recommendations produced by the National Academy of Sciences and the Food and Nutrition Board is called Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI). DRI is also a common term for a guideline of reference values used to assess and plan a healthy individualââ¬â¢s nutrient intake. During a consecutive three-day period, protein intakes, carbohydrate intakes, lipid intakes, macronutrient intake ranges, fiber intake ranges, and dietary modifications are recorded and analyzed in iProfile. Recorded Protein, Carbohydrate, and Lipid Intakes Protein, Carbohydrate, Lipid Foods In my recorded daily intake, the foods consumed that provided the proteins consisted of: the baked fish fillets, hard boiled eggs, turkey bacon, and oven-baked chicken. The foods that provided the carbohydrates consisted of: strawberry yogurt, honeydew melons, strawberries, wa-termelon, blueberries, salad blend with iceberg and romaine lettuce, raspberry vinaigrette dress-ing, Country Time lemonade, air-popped popcorn, Nature Valley blueberry granola bar, Tropicana Pure Premium 100% orange juice, Pasta Fagiolo soup, diet Italian salad dressing, Nestea raspberry iced tea, plain bread sticks, Welchââ¬â¢s 100% pomegranate blueberry juice, green beans, and low-fat 1% milk. The only food that provided the lipids was the macaroni and cheese. Recorded Intake Compared to Dietary Reference Intakes In comparison to the Dietary Reference Intakes, my protein intake was below recom-mended range (too low). One way to achieve the recommended DRI protein range goal is by ei-ther increasing the portion size of fish fillet or servings of baked chicken. My carbohydrate intake was below the recommended range (too low). One way to achieve the recommended carbo-hydrate range goal is by increasing the amount of grain, such as toast or biscuits, to eat for break-fast. Another way is by increasing the amount of dairy products; drinking 2% milk gives better results than consuming low-fat 1% milk. My total lipid intake is also below recommended range (too low). One way to achieve the recommended total lipid intake goal is by occasionally con-suming small portions of fried foods such as fried green tomatoes, bacon or sausage, and scram-bled eggs with cheese. Complementary Proteins ââ¬â Complete vs. Incomplete Complementary proteins require the combination of two or more proteins to compensate for absence in vital amino acid content. Combining to become complementary, a majority of the foods consumed consisted of incomplete proteins because they are considered lower-quality in-dividual plant sources of protein, except for soy beans. Incomplete proteins are essentially im-portant because a single plant protein source cannot simply support body maintenance and growth (Wardlaw, 2011, p. 216). Achieved Protein, Carbohydrate, Lipid The daily-recommended amount of protein, carbohydrate, and lipid intake was recorded respectively at 23 g, 214 g, and 23 g. Each of the recommended intakes was below the recom-mended range. The carbohydrate and lipid intake numbers were not surprising to me because my dietary regimen prohibits the consumption of meats, fried foods, pastas, or breads produced with yeast. However, the protein intake number was very surprising because my dietary regimen also requires plenty of water, fruits, vegetables, and juices. Macronutrient Recommendations. According to Boyers (2014), if a personââ¬â¢s macronu-trient intake was insufficient, the Food and Nutrition Board, which is a subgroup of the Institute of Medicine, can provide recommendations for macronutrient dietary consumptions. For example, if people consume 2500 calories daily, their carbohydrate intake should vary from 282 g to 406 g. Next, they should consume 0.8 g of protein for each kg of body weight. Finally, their lipid intake should vary from 56 g to 97 g while their fiber consumption is 35 g (Boyers, 2014). Macronutrient Intake Ranges In order for the body to properly function, it needs large amounts of compounds called macronutrients. According to Cespedes (2014), macronutrient intake within the recommended range is important because a serious absence in these kinds of nutrients (too much or too little) can compromise the bodyââ¬â¢s ability to survive, growth, and energy level over time. Consistently eating too little proteins can cause fatigue, a protruding belly, diminished immunity, failure to thrive, diarrhea, and decreased muscle mass. Eating too little carbohydrates can result in energy deprivation of the heart, brain, and kidneys. Finally, eating too few lipids can result in dry hair and skin (Cespedes, 2014). Fiber Intake Ranges As calculated at the iProfile website, my dietary fiber total does not meet 100% recom-mendation. The dietary fiber total intake was 12 g out of the DRI total of 21 g (55.4%). My fiber intake was too low due to high consumptions of fluids having 0% fibers, such as water, diet green tea, lemonade, and raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The rationale was that there was a large emphasis on fruits rather than vegetables, which resulted in the low dietary fiber percentage. My diet does not meet the minimum number of food servings from each fiber group because the veg-etable group fell short of the recommended intake. There was plenty of fruit, but there were little vegetables shown in the diet. Specific foods that provided the most fiber in my daysââ¬â¢ meals were strawberry yogurt (35%) and honeydew melon (35%). On the other hand, strawberries, water-melon, blueberries, and salad provided the least percentages of fiber content. Food choice trends that might affect fiber intakes consist of: balancing my liquid consumptions and adding other green leafy vegetables to the dietary regimen, such as greens, asparagus, cabbage, and spinach in order to provide a higher percentage of fiber than fruit alone. Dietary Modifications After observing and analyzing the data, patterns and trends were indentified in my diet. Throughout the diet regimen, almost each meal consisted of a 20 oz. bottle of water or another type of beverage. Until the third day, there was no meat consumed. Dinner was missed on the first day and lunch was missed on the third day. Four meals were consumed on the second day. Most of the diet consisted mainly of fruits and little to no vegetables. Mixing fruits and vegeta-bles together in a blender to make smoothies, dips, and natural juices and creating recipes that inject meats with a variety of grains and vegetables are changes that might increase the fiber in my diet. On the third day, the only source of fiber was from the green beans, which was por-tioned with oven-baked chicken and macaroni and cheese. By drinking fruit juice instead of eat-ing whole fruit, my dietââ¬â¢s fiber and calorie content will decrease. According to Peete (2013), fruit juice contains fruit pulp or skin, which is neither digested nor absorbed by the body. The fibers pass through the digestive system and leave the body in the stool (Peete, 2013). According to Brinkley (2014), insufficient or excessive amounts of proteins contribute to health or illness by increasing the amount of waste products that must be filtered by the kidneys and liver. Excessive consumptions of fats and carbohydrates can contribute to complications such as atherosclerosis, brain injury, obesity, and cancer (Woods Media, 2014). Finally, excessive fiber intake can contribute to six health risks: cramping, diarrhea, malabsorption, constipation, intestinal gas, and intestinal blockage (Fitday, 2013). Conclusion In conclusion, after observing and analyzing my protein, carbohydrate, lipid, and fiber intake, my percentage calculations for all three days were low due to a large consumption of wa-ter and fruits and the lack of vegetables and meat in my dietary regime. In order to achieve my recommended intake for each nutrient, there must be a balance and adequate portion of meats, vegetables, fruits, grains, fats, and dairies. Creating healthy and delicious new recipes by incor-porating a variety of foods will minimize serious health risks, sustain proper body growth, and increase energy levels in the future.

Awkward Mistakes When You Write an Essay, and the Right Solution Finding Help
Awkward Mistakes When You Write an Essay, and the Right Solution Finding Help Writing assignments are an inescapable part of higher education. Theyââ¬â¢re always a challenge, often fun, but most times a chore. And, besides, so much can go wrong: grammatical errors, citing mistakes, structuring issues, plagiarism. So instead of facing the challenges blindly and alone, here are 10 of the most common mistakes made when writing academic papers ââ¬â and how to avoid making them. (Note: The words ââ¬Å"essayâ⬠and ââ¬Å"paperâ⬠in this blog are used interchangeably) 1. Not Fully Understanding the Assignment Different writing assignments have different purposes. One may require a student to include certain items, certain sources, graphs, statistics, etc.; sometimes they require a specific kind of source or group of sources ââ¬â and some writing assignments at the college level may have a student write in a particular style, or format, using a specific structure and incorporating certain kinds of content. The most ubiquitous kind of writing assignment is, however, one where the student is to make an argument and defend it with some sort of evidence. And while not every writing assignment necessitates an argument ââ¬â there are, of course, ones that are analytical, descriptive and investigative, et al., in nature ââ¬â most do involve the student making a case for something, much like that of the argumentative or persuasive essay. Avoiding any confusion on the assignment comes down to listening to instructions and asking the right questions, and knowing which kind of writing style and genre the assignment calls for. Doing the assignment incorrectly could result in a very low grade. Examples of not following the instructions of an assignment: A student should not be making an argument in a Chemistry research paper if the assignment doesnââ¬â¢t call for an argument ââ¬â but only to discuss an aspect of chemistry at length. A student should not provide a summary of a book if they are to only critique the book. So the student must make conclusions: What kind of essay do I need to write? Am I to make an argument (as in a persuasive essay)? Do I provide only an overview of a subject or topic (like in a research paper), or do I analyze information (perhaps an investigative report)? What kind of sources do I need to use ââ¬â and how many do I use? What kind of style is needed in this case ââ¬â MLA, APA, or others? If a student is unsure of exactly what their assignment requires them to do, they should first speak with their professor for clarification. Lacking a (Sufficient) Thesis Statement A professor, reading just about any college essay, should easily find and thoroughly understand its central theme (its Thesis) ââ¬â in less than a minute, actually. It should generally be found in the first paragraph of a studentââ¬â¢s paper, in just one or two very concise, declarative sentences indicating what the rest of the paper is essentially about. This becomes an essayââ¬â¢s thesis statement. Without one, the reader is left in the dark, so to speak, unable to follow the general flow of the essay, which then becomes ineffective. An idea cannot be effectively and successfully conveyed to a reader if that idea is put forth in a disorganized, unmethodical way. (This results in lower evaluations on such assignments.) An effective thesis statement is the result of the student selecting a central theme, it could be a solution to a problem, a defendable argument, a point of view, (depending on the type of assignment and what it calls for), and then putting it in writing, in a confident, assertive tone and stance. Formulating a thesis statement is not the result of the studentââ¬â¢s initial response to a subject or topic, but a product of them taking an attitude toward a subject or topic, then gathering and organizing evidence that supports their stance. An example of a sloppy, ineffective thesis statement: Self-expression and sexuality were themes in Walt Whitmanââ¬â¢s Leaves of Grass. An example of a proper, effective, concise thesis statement: The overt themes of self-expression and sexuality in Walt Whitmanââ¬â¢s Leaves of Grass was a subject of much controversy, thereby illustrating his eraââ¬â¢s rigid views on both matters. 3. Failing to Plan Since well-written essays require a great deal of work, their success is rooted in the studentââ¬â¢s ability to plan well the writing of the essay. After the student gets their assignment and considers all that has to be incorporated into it, how they are to write, how it should be written, etc., it works to their advantage if they create and then follow a detailed, five-pointed outline, with each one representing at least one paragraph of the essay. In the case of writing a persuasive/argumentative essay, the student must, before writing their first sentence of their paper, craft a concise, arguable thesis statement (the first point) ââ¬â which is to be introduced in the paperââ¬â¢s first paragraph, serving as the premise to be maintained or proven throughout the paper. The outline should also include at least three defending points (body paragraphs, the next three points) that evidence the thesis statement, listing the points, and perhaps sources used, if they are needed or required, to validate the argument. Lastly, the outline should include a conclusion paragraph (the final, fifth point of the outline). Without this planning stage, without creating and following an outline to follow, the student runs the risk of turning in a sub-par paper, written with no cohesion, few traces of scholarship, putting forth a very weak argument, and most likely earning them a less-than-stellar grade on the assignment. 4. Lacking an Effective Introduction and Conclusion Paragraphs Without an effective introduction paragraph, the reader is not eased into the topic, in a strategic manner. Perhaps a real-life example may illustrate the need for this paragraph. If a student wants to convince their parents that they need a cell phone at college, they shouldnââ¬â¢t simply come right out and say, ââ¬Å"I need a cell phone at college.â⬠It is too sudden, coming off too aggressively. It will serve them better to start off with a few topical sentences instead, maybe about the importance of maintaining communication with oneââ¬â¢s parents during the early-adult years, for example. The same applies to writing a paper. A paperââ¬â¢s introduction paragraph is meant to first get the reader considering a thought, a notion, a platform (which can be accomplished with first a few general, topical sentences). The introduction paragraph then eases into whatever exactly the writer is attempting to convey, whether it be an argument or more analytical or general in nature, in the form of the Thesis, just one sentencing declaring what the rest of the paper will be about. The last part of the introductory paragraph will generally enumerate the evidence that will be examined to support this idea or stance being conveyed. In case there was any confusion about an essayââ¬â¢s argument or central theme, the conclusion paragraph restates what was said in the introductory paragraph and body paragraphs ââ¬â in total, the paperââ¬â¢s argument and its evidencing points. The conclusion paragraph indicates to the reader that, also, the essay has come to a close. 5. Inclusion of Weak Sources When an essay calls for the inclusion of sources, either to prove an assertion or offer a perspective on a subject or topic, these sources should not consist of dictionaries, encyclopedias, and Wikipedia (though these are great places to begin research.) Rather, academic writing calls for the incorporation of other, more academic sources and scholarly articles, ones that are published in academic journals, newspapers, and reputably published books, and ones that are found on academic search websites like JSTOR. Looking at the long-term effects of dire poverty in the American South, one may pull statistics from a newspaper article or research organization. They may refer to a geography book for help, to visualize the region; they may read about its history and socio-political influences. The student-writer should not consider general and common knowledge, the kind found in Geography and History books, as oneââ¬â¢s primary sources in a writing assignment. For an assignment that, on the other hand, requires scholarly sources to discuss this topic at length, perhaps to confirm an assertion, a professor is expecting the student to use something an expert on the subject has written or said about this said topic ââ¬â and not a simple fact that can be found anywhere on the Internet. How to Become a Resident Adviser (RA)
How to Become a Resident Adviser (RA) You may have wanted to be a resident adviser or resident assistant (RA) since the moment you first moved on campus or you may just want to explore the idea. Either way, youve ideally carefully considered the pros and cons of the position and are now looking to get your application in. What should you expect? And how can you be sure that your application stands out from the crowd? The RA application process varies, so youll need to check with the office that manages residence life at your college to get to know the specific requirements at your school. While this may not be the exact process you experience, the following overview can help you prepare to apply and interview for an RA position. Step One: Theà Application What youll be asked to do: Most colleges and universities have prospective RAs fill out a several-page application, either online or in hard copy. Youll be asked about your involvement on campus, why you want to be an RA, what your leadership experience has beenà and whatà goals youd like to accomplish as an RA.What theyre looking for: Residence life professional staff are looking for people who come from a wide range of experiences. Be honest about what youve been involved in, where your interests areà and what youre most passionate about. Conversely, if you havent been that involved, be honest about that- and that you are now looking to become more involved in an RA role (and why). Your new potential boss(es) will be looking for people who are engaged with their community, want to be a part of building a community and are thoughtful about their role on campus.à Step Two: The Group Interview What youll be asked to do: You may be asked to participate in aà group interview, where youll be put in a small group with other applicants. Youll most likely have to introduce yourself and participate in team-building and problem-solving exercises- all while being observed. What theyre looking for: Your potential new employers are looking for candidates who work well with others, who are self-confident, who listen well, and who demonstrate leadership skills. Remember, however, that this doesnt mean you have to worry about leading your team through a possible challenge; leaders can also be quiet people in the background who see common ground, can help mediate conflict and provide positive reinforcement for others who may be struggling. Just make sure to be yourself while doing your best to work well with those in your group. Step Three: The Individual Interview What youll be asked to do: Youll have a much smaller interview with one (or two) full-time residence life staff members where youre the only candidate present. (This actually may come before or after a group interview, if there is one.) While this may sound nerve-racking, it can actually be less stressful than the group interview process. Youll be asked questions similar to the ones you saw on theà application you first submitted. What theyre looking for: This is the most important time to be yourself, as your interviewer(s) is most likely looking for someone who is a good listener and that can make other people comfortable. Make sure to be relaxed and friendly, make good eye contactà and be honest in your answers. Additionally, be prepared to think on your feet: Your interviewer(s) may ask you how youd handle a variety of scenarios an RA may encounter or ask you to share an experience where you helped mediate a conflict.à Keep yourself focused and do your best to communicate th at youre a smart, friendly, helpful person that will make a great addition to next years RAà staff. And dont forget to bring some questions of your own!

The Wenchuan Earthquake in Sichuan Research Paper
The Wenchuan Earthquake in Sichuan - Research Paper Example Telecommunication towers fell and a number of landslides followed the incident with hundreds of students and children trapped in their schools. ââ¬Å"Two chemical factories in Shifang were destroyed, spilling 80 tons of toxic liquid ammonia, officials told Chinese state media.â⬠(Hooker and Yardley, 2008, para. 4). Nature showed up its worst against mankind and the country incurred huge losses of life and economy as a result of the act of nature. What remains to be explored is whether nature has been unfriendly towards humanity or there is some personal involvement of humans in bringing about such harshness in the attitude of nature towards it. Nature itself issues warning signs to man before the arrival of disasters. It is man who has been more often than not ignorant. The ignorance shown by man often leads to disastrous consequences. This paper aims at evaluating this statement in relation to a case study of the earthquake of Sinchuan. (Smith, 2008) has described how nature tends to warn mankind of upcoming calamities in his paper titled ââ¬Å"Rumor and the Sichuan Earthquakeâ⬠. As the name of his report implies, Smith has explained how nature causes animals to exhibit warning signs to humans when they expect an earthquake, yet many of us fail to realize the gravity of the matter and ignore the statements of those who realize the matter considering them rumors. Nature tends to protect its inhabitants through natural processes and animalsââ¬â¢ apparent curiosity is one of the wonders of nature meant to help out the humans. Days before the earthquake broke out in Sichuan, animals were noticed to behave in an awkwardly fashion. Animals belonging to various species were seen running away from the city. Referring to the history of cases when mankind has benefited from the predictions of animals, Smith explained how animals helped people evacuate the area when they sensed the earthquake in Liaoning, which broke out on the 4th of February in 1974.
